Lisa Moak

Lisa Moak is a retired city planner who writes for young readers and the young at heart. Through the eyes of a twelve-year-old girl, her writing asks the question: what do we do when calamity strikes? Do we pull the covers over our head or do we brave the outside world one step at a time? Do we go on as if nothing ever happened or do we share our struggle? Will we ever dream again? And if we dare to, should we dream big?

Lisa grew up in Los Altos, California on the peninsula of the San Francisco Bay during the 1960’s and 1970’s. She enjoys sharing what the bay area and Santa Clara Valley were like before the emergence of Silicon Valley. Her goal is to offer readers an escape into nature and the world of swimming while igniting dreams, and encouraging the art of goal-setting, sportsmanship, and kindness.

Having competed most of her young life, Lisa swam under the esteemed coach Nort Thornton who trained swimmers at the National and Olympic levels and ultimately coached the UC Berkeley’s Men’s Swim Team. Still swimming today, she competes for the San Diego Masters Swim Team and lives with her husband in North County San Diego. They enjoy hiking, cycling and surfing together. Referring to herself as a wannabe surfer, she mostly watches from shore. She is a stepmom of four adult children and has six grandchildren. While she takes no credit for their upbringing, she is proud to be part of their family and gushes every time she is called “Grammy.”
